Hello,
from far north, from the end of the North Atlantic storm road.
Cyclone Soeren, which in fact is a combination of three
storms; ex-hurricanes Michelle and Noel plus a cyclone
which was born last week near Greenland,
hit Finland during this weekend. While i'm writing this,
Soeren is roaring outside my window. It's much weaker
than Manfred two weeks ago, but anyway here in inland
(150 km from coast), the gusts are some 21-23 m/s,
so the trees are falling again...
On friday afternoon, Soeren gave some 20 cm of snow
in southern coast (here in 150 km north from Helsinki,
no snow at all), and for example in Helsinki area, it
caused some 150 car accidents.
Saturday was stormy on seas, but quite peaceful inland.
But during sunday, first a cold front swept over southern
Finland and caused several thunderstorms with hails and
heavy downbursts. After that the wind has been gusty,
for example during one minute, i measured first
some 5 m/s, then suddenly over 21 m/s and soon
down to 12 m/s. It has been this kind of up and downs
whole evening.
Lot's of trees have fell down and electricity blackouts
are common again, especially in countryside.
Regards, Olli Haukkovaara
