Remnants of Michelle have combined with a strong surface low over Eastern
Canada today. Deepening to 970 mb is expected, with gales, abundant rain and
snowfall. This scenario is somewhat reminiscent of the "Perfect Storm"
although certainly not as strong. Interestingly enough, the surface low is
expected to combined with yet another low over Labrador and deepen further
(959 mb as per GEMREG 12z run).
At 19z, Blanc-Sablon (extreme east of Quebec province) reports a surface
pressure of 971mb (a 30mb drop in 12 hours) and winds from the NE at 42 Mph
with gusts to 50 Mph and increasing. Expected winds for this evening around
60-65 Mph. Precipitation totals expected around 50-60mm (rain, turning to
snow tonight) while on the cold side of the low, snow accumulation may reach
6-10 inches on average, locally more.
