Despite a mandatory evacuation order and a hurricane warning, I am
still
here in Key West. As of this morning (11/4) at 0930, conditions in Key
West
are not as bad as what was in the forecast or what's on the Weather
Channel.
Thus far, I've recorded about an inch of precip since midnight. The
highest
gust I've had is 22mph from the East. Winds at this location are 15-20
sustained. Temp is 73, RH 95%, DP 73, Bar 29.77. Keep in mind, my
observing
station is three miles from the weather service office at the airport.
Our
forecast calls for conditions to worsen by this afternoon. The immediate
concern I have is possible flooding. The storm drainage system here
leaves a
lot to be desired. Also, our power company doesn't have a very good
history
of being able to keep the power on during the simplest of storms. I will
provide updates as the day and night progresses. I have access to a
laptop
so power shouldn't be too much of a concern.
Latest info available at my site which also has special hurricane links
to
nws eyw.
Regards,
Harry
