Two long lived tornados produced widespread damage in the greater Wash
DC area this afternoon. Both have left damage to buildings & trees.

The first storm developed about 3pm in Culpeper County VA & trekked NNE
thru Fauquier Co to Loudoun Co where it dissipated about 5:15pm near
Waterford. Early LSR's report of damaged mobile home resulted in 1
injury.

Additional tv station reports show heavy tree damage that blocked VA 55
for over 2 hours, & damaged a large house in The Plains.

The 2nd tornado formed about 4pm north of Richmond VA & moved thru
southern Prince William Co (about 15 miles SE of Jason's Breakiron's
house). It then continued NNE thru Fairfax & Arlington counties in VA,
Washington DC proper, then Montgomery & Howard counties MD, dissipating
just 10 miles SW of Baltimore MD.

Cameras mounted on broadcast antennas & at the plane-damaged Pentagon
catch the formation of tornados within this cell.

Witness reports to Baltimore & Washington DC tv stations say that
buildings at the University of MD were damaged. (Early reports that one
was destroyed was quickly taken down after clarifications.) Four non
life threatening injuries were reported there.

Other reports of uprooted trees & damaged (& some reported flipped) cars
were broadcast.THe NWS had been too busy to update the LSR as of 6:50pm

In the last half hour, new flash flood warnings were posted on the east
slope of the Blue Ridge from Fauquier Co VA to Frederick Co MD until
8:15pm.

At my location only, Winchester in nw VA, only .25" has fallen. Only
.63" has fallen this month, and since no more should fall the rest of
this month, it will go down as one of the driest.
