The Neshaminy creek, only a few miles from where I live in Perkasie, PA is
flooding at a crest not seen since 1993. About 17 feet, 8 feet above flood
stage. Local television stations are flying over with helicopters showing
entire wooded areas flooded out and even a few homes completely sumbmerged
in water! This flooding in the Bucks-Montgomery county area, just north of
Philadelphia, shadows Hurricane Floyd and some residents say they haven't
seen anything like it.
Unofficial totals from area AWS WeatherNet schools show over 11 inches of
rain in areas around Horsham. The Willow Grove mall, one of the largest in
Southeast PA experienced major flooding in the parking lot late last night
with cars completely submerged in water and even cars floating on top of
each other!
I recorded 3.20" of rain here in Perkasie, but just go to the south a bit
and we get into a common 7" rainfall amount. Flood warnings just expired as
the rain is finally moving out of both counties as of 10:30am.
I have established a website several months ago, and am currently posting
updates on the flooding. Go to http://phlweather.tripod.com and click on the
'severe weather center' for more info.
Thanks,
Bill Deger
