Well i didn't even have to chase the storms.. they came to me :)

and btw Jim D.. this makes me 5/5 on getting the SVR, so i'm keeping up
with you :P

Well here is what happened..

about 445pm i was watching a line of storms moving into the area from the
north.. i was watching an area to my NW.. this area had a well defined
lowering and some mild roation.. upon notifing EAX, they informed me they
belive it is the gust front.. this first feature soon fell apart and was
overtaken by a rain shower.. however.. a second lowering developed on the
back side of that rain shaft.. this lowering was much much stronger.. the
roation was amazeing.. (keep in mind i don't chase the big twisters in KS
:) ) the vertical motation on the north side of the area of roation was
very strong as well, the strongest i have seen in 10 years of storm
spotting/chaseing. about 500PM CDT the lowering started to develop what
looked like a funnel cloud.. it was hard to tell because there was so much
to watch (the nice bright green tint behind this area did make for some
nice views.. about 505 we noticed what i would call "banding" in the scud
clouds arround this wanna be funnel cloud.. again.. i contacted EAX, they
passed it off as the gust front.. the funnel got about half way to the
ground.. then a rain shaft started to overtake this area.. and the roation
and the funnel fell apart rather quickly.. .. about this time the lighting
started to get rather intense so we pulled up and moved inside the house..
(glad we did) at about 510 the rain started.. at first the heaviest of the
storm looked like it would miss me to the north.. boy was i wrong.. about
515 the storm hit.. winds gusted to 65mph (measured) our power failed once
or twice (just short blinks, and yes, i know my power company sucks). then
the rain picked up.. our vis went from 1/2sm to zero.. with heavy rain..
the winds.. were sustianed out of the ENE at 50G65mph (recored 3 65 mph
gusts) then the hail started.. the hail was mostly pea first.. and then
came the big stuff.. 1 to 1.5" hail fell at my location for at least 3 to
5 mintues.. before it lessend to about .25-.50" hail.. the heavy rain ended
about about 15mintues after the rain first started.. and in the 15 mintues
it rained.. i got 1.07" of rain.. and melted hail..

all in all it was a nasty storm.. and it was the worst we have got this
year.. yes we did get some damage.. mostly small limbs down..

Thanks,

Glen Briggs
