Tornado Hits Downtown London
London, KY, June 2 - Around 6:15 Saturday evening, a tornado suddenly formed without warning over downtown London. By the time it was over, at least ten people were injured, several homes and the Carnaby Square shopping center were damaged.
The injuries are reportedly minor. An emergency shelter has been set up behind the Kentucky State Police
barracks off 80-West in London.
Several national guardsmen were activated to help handle the situation.
The Carnaby Square shopping center appeared to be ground zero with storefront windows blown out,
roofs destroyed and several cars in the parking lot on their sides.
About one-thousand Laurel County residents lost power. Work crews were expected to have the power restored sometime Sunday morning.
