The local NWS station in Waco, Texas set a new record low for May 22
with a low of 47 degrees. This replaces the previous record low of 54
degrees set in 1945. The low temperature this morning at my station in
Temple, Texas, 35 miles to the south of Waco, was 51 degrees.
There were four other Texas stations that set new records this
morning:
Abilene - 43 degrees replaces the old record of 46 degrees set in
1931.
Austin - 47 degrees replaces the old record of 54 degrees set in 1945.
Del Rio - 53 degrees replaces the old record of 54 degrees set in
1911.
Houston - 56 degrees replaces the old record of 59 degrees set in
1976.
College Station tied their record low of 53 degrees. The original
record was set in 1919.
We have had a very quiet storm season in Central Texas this spring. We
have only had two days of severe weather, one on May 6 and the other
last Sunday, May 20. Neither mounted to much more than some brief high
wind and small hail. One of the storms last Sunday passed just to the
south of us and caused damage in the North Austin area, about 60 miles
to my south. There were a reported 18,000 residents without power and
several road closures that lasted through Monday.
