< This report would have been filed earlier, but i was busy this past
weekend. We had the 74th Shenadoah Apple Blossom Festival, & i watched
two parades & had to work at my job more than normal amount of hours. I
will be readying a Photopoint album & will furnish an url once it's
ready.

Also, Yahoo! was down several hours Monday evening, & very slow until
Tuesday am. Details at

Sat 5-05

I knew that a back door front would reach us, but little did i know how
sharp the temp fall would be.

It only fell to 67º in the morning, rising to 82.5º at 1:38pm (about
the start of the Grand Feature Parade). About 2:30pm, the front arrived,
& temps began to tumble on a stiff NE breeze.

About 3pm, sprinkles began to fall, & storm cloud was noted to the
northwest. By 3:30pm, a light rain was falling, & briefly was moderate,
along w/ occasional lightning. It lasted until about 4pm.

Later, a radar check would show a heavy thunderstorm traveled along the
Frederick Co VA & Hampshire Co WV border, 15 miles west of town. Radar
estimated rainfall was about .6" there. Elsewhere in town rain was .01"
(my location) to .05" in the NE side of town.

The temp fell to 62º during the thundershower
(20º in 2 1/2 hours!). The low for the day was 58.1º at 9:58pm. PWG
was 29mph at 3:01pm. Low windchill was 57, at 6:15pm. Max DP was 63. AQI
was code yellow, moderate, before the frontal passage.

The storm capsized a boat on the Chesapeake Bay Saturday afternoon,
killing a member of the VA state school board. Story at:

Photo: Breeze flips leaves to show the undersides. Local folklore
indicates that it is a sign of rain. However, no more rain fell as the
day's 2nd shower passed my location about 6:30pm.

Saturday's was the first measurable rain in 11 days. And was only enough
to wash a trace of the pollen count away.

As the breeze picked up Sat afternoon, the "helicopters" (maple tree
seedlets) fell to the ground in droves. This shot: the ground is nearly
tan from them.

Mon 5/07

Overnight the skies cleared, & during the day, the bluest sky in a week
graced us. Cirrus did advance on the W & SW horizon. Low was 39.9 at

barometer was 30.51" during the mid am. AQI code green.
