   Thunderstorms lash Israel
----------------------------
JERUSALEM, May 2 (AFP) - Thunderstorms lashed Israel with torrential
rain overnight, causing flooding and severe traffic disruptions. The
national weather service said 70 millimetres (nearly three inches) of
rain fell in one hour in Galilee, in the north, and 30 millimetres in
other parts of the country. Firemen were kept busy in Jerusalem to
free drivers trapped by flood waters and fallen trees, public radio
said, while highways and city streets were closed to traffic. The
storms followed a heat wave of several days. chw/mb AFP
