Judging by temperatures at this link, frost was limited to rural regions
only. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VA_StormNet/message/11866   No
records were reported by the NWS.

TV station WJLA in Washington DC bought meteorologist Doug Hill a new
toy, his very own Doppler radar.

Of course the report mentioned that NWS reports were "at least" 6
minutes old. What the station failed to mention was that if they have a
true Doppler radar, their image would be up to 6 minutes old too.

It is located in Bowie MD, 25 miles _east_ of Washington DC. Why there
you may ask. Doug Hill said was to improve the images in the Chesapeake
Bay region. I would think also it would be to put the ground clutter
pattern east of the city, & to give a clearer view of storms when the
Sterling radar is being hammered by a storm. (The Sterling radar is next
to Dulles Airport, about 40 miles west of Washington).

And with a cloudless sky, Doug Hill was glad to show anything on it. He
found a few speckles of light rain some 200 miles east of the DC region.

During the next hour, rival station WRC's meteorologist Bob Ryan showed
the same band of rain. Only this time it was solid. The reason: WRC uses
a compilation of the various Doppler radars on it's own interface. The
effect is similar to what TWC does. The solid band was shown by Dover &
Wakefield radars.

We have not a had steady widespread rain in 10 days, since Easter
night/early Mon 4-16 . Thus the top soil is beginning to dry out. WHAG
tv report on the mountain fire near Hagerstown MD:

Mountain Fire Keeps Crews Busy

By Amber Rupinta
CASCADE, MD APRIL 26 - Firefighters from four counties and two states
spent Thursday afternoon battling a mountain fire near Fort Ritchie.
Crews were called out to the scene shortly after one that afternoon when
a resident spotted smoke on the mountain side.

Firefighters found almost two acres of groundcover burning near railroad
tracks. Their biggest challenge was getting to the scene and trucking in
the water supply to fight the forest fire. "Accessibility was our
biggest problem," said Steven Lewis with Smithsburg Volunteer Fire
Department. "It took us awhile to find how to get to the fire and the
terrain made it rather difficult."

No one was injured in the fire, the cause is still under investigation.

====
I heard the initial call on the scanner, as "smoke in the vicinity of
the RR tracks". Within 20 minutes, multiple units were en route to the
scene.
