{While i was working on this early Wed, webtv shut down for weekly
maintenance an hour early. This is the1st chance i had to compile this
report since then.}

A sharp cold front moved thru at the lunch hour Tue, and soon temps

While we missed the heavy rain, these thundershowers were near US Rt. 50
Chesapeake Bay Bridge, & another in St Mary's Co, 50 miles SSE of
Washington DC, at about 5:30pm Tue.
These were not severe, and the nowcast issued were more for the rush of
cold air arriving.

WRC tv ch 4 in Washington DC had a story on how pollen is measured,
although i did not have a tape ready then.
A specially treated slide is place vertically on a special device, on a
roof. 24 hours later, it is brought indoors, where drops are placed on
the slide. A magnifying microscope then displays the image on a nearby
screen, and count is measured or estimated.
The pollen count is a near number of pollen grains in a cubic meter of
air.
Since most hardwood & many mature trees have just started, the process
here will last several more weeks.
And the lack of rain will mean none will be washed away, & the warm
weather returning Friday should spurt the pollination in full process
again.
Although this one scene is not as graphic as the other, pollen puddles
at the bottom of he driveway.

Here, Tuesday's pollen count was 2338! Washington DC's count was 1750!
Washington number was a record for them, & the highest in a decade.
Our number has not been this high in several years. However, i remember
readings in the 9000 range back in the mid 80s. Those readings were in a
residential section of town at the time. Now the readings are measured
at the Medical Center complex, where they are less trees.

Wed 3-25
A cirrus deck progressed east across the sky. It was the western edge of
a weak coastal low & Tuesday's cold front. The clearing was sharp, but
it took 9 hours to complete.

The high of 57.1º was at 4:29pm. It was nearly 24º colder than Tue,
& 13º below normal. PWG was 17mph at 12:05am, & daytime winds were
north about 10mph. Low windchill of 26, at 8:38am.
Pollen count here was tamed a tad by the cooler temps & the shower Tue,
but it was still very high, 633. In Washington DC, where it was warmer
longer & got little rain, it remained at record high levels.
Frost warnings were issued for the western parts of VA for early today,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VA_StormNet/message/11861http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VA_StormNet/message/11861
.At 3am today, it was still 38, so frost should be scattered instead of
widespread.
Temperatures will be near 80 Fri & much of next week. A back door front
may keep Sat temp as low as 70º for a high.
