Fires in Northport on the Charlotte/Sarasota County Line are tenatively under control and people have been let back in their houses. Firemen will watch the area overnight for flareups, etc. There is a worry that daylight will bring low humidity and high winds which again will flare up the fires. The fires in Charlotte County are now reported under control but also will be surveillanced thru the night for flareups. In Northport, apparently a dozen homes were damaged. In the Murdock area of Port Charlotte, apparently upwards of 24 homes were damaged. Two new fires reported-Collier County. There are two fires still out of control down in Collier County. One is in an area of Golden Gate south of Naples. The other was on Catherine Island off the coast. One danger has been what would happen if winds would shift direction. The weather experts are stating that a wind shift is not expected in SW Florida over the next day. That fact will spare both Punta Gorda and Cape Coral/North Fort Myers from receiving effects of
the Port Charlotte fires. Richard Macomber - Cape Coral (Lee County, Fl).
