What I understand about this fire from the news when driving home from work
in Punta Gorda is that the suspected cause is arson. It is aggravated due to
the high winds and a humidity level of 16% (which hopefully will be climbing
upward in the next couple of days). One home has burned with others at risk.
The other problem is a large cloud area of smoke which is now moving over
into Charlotte County; both Englewood and Rotonda have been saturated with
this making the air quite unhealthful. One of my co-workers who lives in
Punta Gorda Isles said that last night they opened their windows to take
advantage of the cool breeze; immediately the house filled up with smoke and
smoke smell; all coming from this fire. Actually the winds pushed some of it
all the way down to Lee County as last night even in Cape Coral, we had a
smoke smell which was quite strong. The fire indexes are shooting back up
to the
600 levels due to the low humidity and stronger winds. This arson thing is a
BIG problem in SW Florida. Apparently, when the first fire got out of
control
(do not understand the approval for it in light of the weather predictions
including high winds which was widely known), someone added to it in
