WEATHER ABROAD
Mongolian Nightmare/French Rains: Four days of snowstorms have left at
least seven people dead and 19 missing. Meanwhile, bitter weather
conditions hampers rescue efforts. Over the last week, a meter of snow
has
blocked roads and cut communications over many areas in the land-locked
nation. This has been the harshest winter in 50 years, coming right on
the heels of last summer's drought. Temperatures are forecast to return
to
warmer levels, at least allowing for the melting of some of the massive
amounts of snowfall.
France: The city of Paris is now in the midst of its wettest Spring
since
1873! This heavy rainfall, combined with high tides, have so far forced
nearly 700 people in the Somme area out of their homes. Heavy rainfall
during March and April in combination with melting snow has flooded many
locations in the Northern and Central sections of the country. Between
April of 2000 and March of this year, 40 inches of rain has fallen on
Paris Metro, nearly doubling the average annual rainfall.
