Winchester VA
I worked several extra hours this weekend, thus did not have time to
post earlier in weekend.

Fri 4-6
As the warm front advanced thru the region, it caused a period of light
to mod rain from 10am to 1:30pm. That totalled .34'", and about 10:45am,
i heard the 1st thunder of the season.
A heavy t-storm trekked out of Mineral Co WV, & weakened as it moved
east Fri am.

The warm air slowly moved in, & along with that, the fog. Visibility was
below 5 miles until late evening.

The low of 47.2º was at 2:30am, the high of 69.7º, at 6:07pm. The
PWG was 13mph at 4:15pm.

At the local airport, the temp soared 6º in 90 minutes. It rose to
72º at 5:41pm, & stayed there for 3 hours, & remained in the low 70s
until 9:30pm.

Sat 4-7
The night before, WRC tv meteorologist Bob Ryan gave Saturday's forecast
"a low confidence factor" since there was doubt where the back door
front would end up. It was thought to be somewhere between Baltimore &
Charlottesville.

The winds here had been southwest before Saturday dawn, & the am low was
only 62º. The wind became northeast about 11am.

Surprisingly, temps stayed mild despite decreased sunshine. However,
that ended after dusk fell, & we lost the solar effect.

Temperatures in NE MD were said to be in the upper 40s Saturday
afternoon.

The high was 74.7º at 12:33pm, the low of 50.7º at 11:57pm. The PWG
was 16mph at 12:37am.

Sun 4-8
What a difference in temps. At 3am Sun it was 73º at several
Pittsburgh area stations, while 45 miles away, it was 45º in Johnstown
& 43º in Altoona.

As much i could figure, the cold front made it west to the eastern most
ridges of the Appalachians, & returned slowly east Sunday.

A small cluster of thunderstorms formed near Elkins WV about 6pm, moving
east just south I-66, reaching the Atlantic about 1am. I saw "heat"
lightning from this storm, but was not frequent enough to film.

More sharp temp contrasts Sun afternoon: The Shenandoah Airport (Weyers
Cave) VA had a high of 90º for two hours. Here, 65 miles away, we
mustered only the mid 70s again.

And Scott Lancey of radio station WREL, in Lexington, VA reported a high
of 92º!

Here is a look at VA high & Lows this weekend:

I try to given pollen reports when i see them, but the radio station
that types on the CATV Bulletin Board Service only did it twice last
week.
The paper also does it, but the readings are a day old, & i generally
read it collectively on Saturdays.
The pollen count from last week:
25 Tuesday, 122 Wed; 58 Thursday; and 372
Friday.

As i was writing this, i have been watching a line in thunderstorms in
PA. Only 1 warning so far, but seem to be intensifying. The storms
extended from Hagerstown MD west in PA to NE OH, moving east.

And at 4am ET, a SPS said that my area was included in slight risk of
severe wx today.Real time VA wx warninga can be found at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VA_StormNet/messages ...newest at the
bottom of the page, and labled as "no subject, no author".
