NCWitnessed personally: no A tornado was reported on the ground by
residents near Swansboro, NC. The storm briefly formed a hook echo with
low level rotation detected on radar (and a BWER detected in the mid
level of the storm) and a warning was given by the Newport, NC National
Weather Service at 4:15pm EDT Apr 01, 2001. The NWS forecaster told me
the storm has just crossed an older surface boundary, possible an
outflow boundary, leading to development of its rotation . Shortly
thereafter the storm entered stable cold dry air, left behind from a
previous storm, and dissipated. Following is the preliminary text Storm
Report posted by the Storm Prediction Center, and attached to this email
is the SPC storm report pic for Apr 01, 2001.
