With the presumption that some barely warm enough maritime air will get
entrained into this system, NYC and more likely eastern Long Island may
change to a period of sleet/freezing rain or even just rain for a time during
the day Monday, this would
cut down the accumulations here near the coast. It's a tough call and would
make a lot of difference in whether we see either 6" to 12" (NWS forecast) or
in excess of a foot, maybe approaching 2ft (Accuweather.com's forecast) by
Tuesday Morning. Below is the official forecast from the NWS for NYC Metro-
Tonight:
Snow...mixing with then changing to sleet before daybreak. Snow accumulation
by dawn...2 to 3 inches. Windy. Low in the
lower 30s. Northeast wind 20 to 25 mph and gusty.
Monday:
Sleet and freezing rain changing to rain toward midday. Little if any
additional accumulation expected. Windy. High from the mid
30s to near 40. Northeast wind 25 to 30 mph...gusting to 45 mph. Chance of
precipitation near 100 percent.
Monday Night:
Rain and sleet during the evening...changing to snow. Snow accumulation by
dawn...4 to 8 inches. Windy. Low from the upper
20s to the lower 30s. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.
Tuesday:
Snow tapering to light snow showers late in the day. Very windy. Total snow
accumulation...6 to 12 inches. High 35 to 40.
Chance of snow near 100 percent.

Here in Maspeth (Queens County - just East of Manhattan) We've been in the
mid-upper 30's most of the day under mostly cloudy skies with only some
scattered flurries, however the flakes have been coming down at a more
prominent rate and at a
heavier intensity (lightly to occasionally moderate) for the past hour or so.
Temps here are now in the lower 30s, below freezing, streets are wet, snow is
beginning to lightly coat the car tops and colder surfaces. I'll update more
later.
