Winchester VA

Here in the Shenadoah Valley, often in the spring, & sometimes in the
fall, we are last to clear (& warm up) because an easterly breeze will
dam cold air along the closest mountain ridges.

On Wednesday, much of the local region cleared to a degree allowing for
a decent warmup. Temperatures soared into the 60s, w/ a school's AWS in
the Luray VA area reporting a rooftop high of 69.

We were warmer than _all_ official reporting stations in the state.
Meanwhile, much of the state was "socked in" with heavy fog, low clouds,
& drizzle. Temperature generally stayed in the 50s.

For the 8th time in the 1st 2 weeks of February, temperatures were well
above seasonable normal. That has lead to bulb flowers sprouting,
insects & the robins reimmerging, & obvious budding of all but 2 of the
trees in my backyard.

While i know pollen counts don't officially begin here for at least a
month, i know there is a pollen count for some times of trees now.

Wednesday's balmy low was 42.7 at 7:26am [that's normal high temp!!];
with a high of 62.4, at 3:24pm. A PWG of 13mph was at 11:04pm. Lt rain
fell between 3 & 8am, & again just before 11pm. Rain totals for the day
.06". The temperatures were short for daily records. The barometer fell
a half inch, from 30.26 to 29.75".

And late Wed eve, the temp "chinooked" from 50 at 9pm to 61 at 11:30pm,
where they remain at 3am Thur.

Thur 2-15

After hovering in the low 60s overnight, a back door cold front reached
the area at 6am Thur. Temperatures fell 7 degrees in the 1st hour at the
airport. Also the airport, it fell from 64 at 6am to 50 at midday, where
the temperature stabilized for several hours.

I checked a few other VA stations in the southside. Despite little
sunshine, temps also managed to the 60s there too. At a Norfolk area
station (KLFI), the high was 66 at Noon, falling 20 degrees to 46 at
7pm!

Here in Winchester, we rose to the high of 63.2 at 4:36am. The low was
42.7, at 11:45pm. A PWG of 20mph was 2:56am. The low windchill was 35 at
11:10pm. Dew point range was 53 falling to 37. The barometer range was
29.75 rising to 30.12".

Rain fell from 10-11am, totalling .12".

Additional rain is forecast until late tonight, w/ QPF's of about 1"
forecast by the NWS & meteorologist Bob Ryan (WRC tv) Colder dryer air
is due for the weekend. There is a 40% POP of snow/rain Monday, w/ light
amounts.
