Winchester VA

Sat 2-10
Before the arrival of artic front Sat am, temp snuck up to 64, tying the
daily record from 1954. The temp then fell to a 8:30am low of 42, then
recouped to 46 in the afternoon. About 10:30pm, the temp fell below 32,
for the 1st time in 2 1/2 days!

The only VA locale that reported a record temp Sat. was Dulles Apt, Wash
DC, which tied the 1990 record of 63.

My high was 63.8 at 3:26am, the low at 11:47pm, was 28.7. The barometer
fell to 29.65", then rose to 30.37" (2/3")! The dewpoint fell from 49 to
14. The front passed dry, & no rain fell.

It was cloudy Fri night & Sat am, then it gradually cleared. Only
scattered clouds were left at mid afternoon, when i filmed this FW
cumulus.

Saturday was very windy. My PWG was 43mph. at 5:05am. At the airport 2
miles away, incomplete readings showed a maximum sustained wind speed of
35mph, w/ a PWG of 44mph, at 9:41am. My control box alarm is set for
40mph, and activated about that time, but not go above the 5am gust. The
airport PWG was incomplete because data from www.wunderground.com was
not available before 6am Sat.

I did not hear of any wind related issues on the scanner. I called the
local newspaper Sun evening, who said they would not need my info [on
PWG's], because they had no photos or stories from it. I double checked,
via the website, & no mention was given of the Sat windstorm.

Sat's low windchill was 7 at 10:47pm.

Photo: A willow's thin branches lifted about 45 degrees off the ground.

Sun 2-11
When i filmed the sky before i left for work, only the contrail induced
cirrus were visible. Cirrus did really increase until afternoon, & had
thickened to an overcast at sunset.

Sun low was 22.5, at 6:44am, followed by the high of 38.6 at 3:22pm.
That makes a 41 degree drop in temp in 27 hours. The barometer rose to
30.60", a rise of inch from early Sat. The PWG was 17mph, which created
the days low windchill of 3, at 8:58am.

And if you thought it was cold & windy, try here:

Early Sat eve, highest 15 minute wind gust was 148mph!!!

Here in nw VA, we may have a light wintry mix this afternoon & evening.
Sun evening forecasts from the NWS gave it a 40% POP; TWC said yes on
tv, no on website forecast; Accu Weather did not mention on website
forecast.
After Mondays wintry threat, temp will be mild for Feb, with rain
threats & no snow. Several long range models still show an artic cold
down for the east coast in about a week.
