Winchester VA
Thanks to the massive storm in the mid section of the nation, the east
has warmed drastically.
The NWS believes most daily records in the LWX (Baltimore/Washington)
are in jeopardy today. Locally, the old record of 62 stands from 1949. I
think we could reach that _before_ noon, if the daily warmups the last
few days are any indication.
The cold front is due about midnight Friday night, and temps, although
more February like, will still be above normal most days thru mid next
week.
I have seen several reports of an ernest cold down next weekend or the
following week. This was posted in Washington forecast discussion Thur
eve:
BY NEXT WEEKEND AND THE FOLLOWING WEEK. BY LATE NEXT WEEKEND...THE MRF
HAS A STRONG RIDGE OVR FAR WRN CANADA AND ALASKA WITH THE FLOW PATTERN
COMING OUT OF THE ARCTIC DOWN INTO THE NORTH CENTRAL U.S. AND THEN
EASTWARD TO THE MID ATLC AND NEW ENG STATES. IN ADDTN...THE POLAR VORTEX
BEGINS TO DROP SWD LATE NEXT WEEK WITH IT REACHING HUDSON BAY BY T240
WHICH WILL FORCE LOWER HEIGHTS SOUTHWARD INTO THE U.S. IF THE MRF IS
CORRECT...WE COULD BE LOOKING AT SOME COLDER WX NEXT WEEKEND AND
ESPECIALLY THE FOLLOWING WEEK IN OUR AREA.
Meanwhile, i rode home from work (on my bike) in just shirt sleeves. Too
bad i can't wear shorts to work, forecast is a near 70 degree high
today.
For Thursday: the low was 29.8, at 6:34am, the high was 60.2 at 2:42pm.
The PWG was 10mph, at 1:56pm. The low windchill was 27, at 8:20am. [We
missed the record by 9 degrees Thursday]

Last week, i showed a picture (to most of the lists) of crocus
sprouting. Today, the daffodils have risen, en mass.

And also the tulips (i think). I counted almost 3 dozen bulb flowers
sprouting.

I saw the first 2 robins of the season Thur too, but for some reason,
it did not come out on tape.
And as a PS: This snow total map for Feb 5th storm was posted on the
Baltimore/Washington website.
