Subject: snow in December

December snowfall records have already been broken at many cities
across Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. I'm really impressed at
some of the snow depths across the north central US...many locations
across Iowa and Wisconsin have 20-25 inches of snow on the ground
(23 inches in my back yard):

One site in northeastern Iowa (Tripoli) has 31 inches! That's the kind
of
snow depth you'd expect at, say, Marquette MI...but certainly not in
the Corn Belt in late December.

Looks like the greatest snow depth being reported this morning was
52 inches at Sandy, Utah (elevation 8760 feet). The non-mountainous
winner: 33 inches at Point Hope, Michigan.

As weary as I am of shoveling snow...I'l take this over the ice
storms that the southern Plains have been enduring...
