[STORMREPORTS] Tornado

It's been an interesting four days weather wise in the deep south. As
most know I do AM/FM radio broadcast weather around the country and
throughout the Caribbean.
On Thanksgiving day and on Friday I had to contend with
severe weather over the gulf coast from Texas to Florida. As my day
starts at 4 am and ends at 7 pm, I didn't even set an eye on any turkey
until 8 pm Thursday evening. :<((
The weather was also interesting here in Florida yesterday.
We had a slow moving cold front in the Gulf Of Mexico that screwed my
forecasts up timing wise, due to a surface wave that formed on it.
Basically we had one vort. max sweep over the northern and central
portions of the state in the predawn hours, producing only light
showers.
However, as it moved through south Florida during the heat
of the day, the mid 80 f temps. in conjunction with -20 c temps at 500
mb. helped fire up big thunderstorms and attendant severe weather, in
the form of flash flooding and one tornado in Palm Beach County. I was
just going fixing to go on the air on two AM stations in Palm Beach
County, when a tornado touched down and was able to beat the local NWS
office to the punch on the storm. :<))
I understand that many reports of snow flurries were turned
in during and after the storm but it turned out to be millions of little
ragged paper chads, hhhhmmmm. :<)) Geez, you'd think the citizens of
Palm Beach County could tell the difference between snow flakes and
questionable chads, nah!
A few other meteorological tid bits. Here in the metropolis
of Plant City, the 28 deg. min. temp. I had back on the 22nd was a new
record low for the date, previous was 30 deg. in 1937. It stayed below
freezing for 10 hours wiping out my bananna trees in the back yard.
After the warm front passage on the 24th I saw more records fall in the
other direction. On the 25th the max. and min temps. of 83 and 69 deg.
were both new record highs for the date going back to 1932.
Last night I had a thunderstorm move through with the
pre-frontal trough wind shift line. It produced unbelievable numbers of
VERY CLOSE lightning strikes for about 30 minutes. The bolts reset the
cpu's in all of my wireless weather instruments! We also received the
first substantial rainfall since early September, the amount I don't
know yet as the digital rain guage was also reset. I'll have to make the
hike into the back yard strawberry field after sunrise and check the
good old fashioned low tech plastic rain guage.
I also have some great digital photo's of our fall
colors. When I get time I'll post them on the general list.
