Well once again the Lake Effect machine showed us not
to underestimate it.
I was westbound on I-80 yesterday afternoon somewhere
between Clearfield and DuBois when I hit the snow
squall. The snow was coming down so hard and fast
that the cars in front of me were barely making a
visible path on the road. Traffic slowed to a crawl
between 15-30 mph. The falling snow blocked out the
sun and it appeared to be night at times and the
visiblity was maybe five feet.
This same squall hindered efforts of firefighters in
Clarion County at a structure fire in St. Petersburg.
The high winds fanned the flames and hazardous road
conditions meant it took much longer for companies to
respond, some were already out due to numerous traffic
accidents as a result of the snow. At one point
nearly every VFD and Ambulance service in Clarion
County was out on a call.
Here in Parker City (Armstrong Co) we have approx 4-5
inches of snow...I am told that about 3 inches of that
fell in two hours yesterday.
Take care and stay warm,
Jonathan Anschutz
