On Thursday 11/16/00 chilly weather once again made it's presence felt
here in drought stricken Florida. The official statewide minimum
temperature was 33 deg at Alachua in the north and Brooksville on the
central peninsula.
However unofficial readings of 32 deg. did occur at Chiefland in the
north and Nobleton on the central peninsula.
Here in rural west Plant City the minimum temperature was 42 deg with
a ground level temp. of 39 deg. The nearby FAWN automatic station in
Dover bottomed out a 43 deg. Here in Plant City we had a huge
temperature fall early, then it leveled off and held nearly steady all
night.

The latest MRF model run MOS is calling for 28 deg at Tallahassee on
Thanksgiving day morning and that will drop with each new run, so it
will be interesting to watch the possible record breaking Arctic air
mass rush south across the Mississippi River valley and at least into
north Florida.
A similar event occured in Florida during Thanksgiving week 1970, with
temperatures into the upper teens down to the south central peninsula.
Tampa's all time record low for November of 23 deg ocurred with this
freeze event.
