A freeze (to the best of my knowledge) is when the temperature at
observation level (5 feet) is at or below 32F. A frost can occur when the
air at observation level is above freezing. You can have frost when the
official low is in the mid 30s since the ground temp could be right at about
32. Yours was a freeze as far as I can tell.
