Someone forgot to tell Mother Nature that today was the first day of
autumn as Austin set a new record high temperature and Abilene,
Amarillo and Brownsville tied records. The high temperature at my
station in Temple, Texas (60 miles north of Austin) was 96 degrees. To
make matters worse, dewpoints were in the upper 70's for most of the
day with the maximum dewpoint of 82 degrees shortly before noon. This
resulted in heat indices around 115 degrees.
Here are the records set or tied today:
Austin
New Record Daily High: 99 degrees Old Record: 97 in 1993
Abilene
High temperature of 99 degrees tied the previous record originally set
in 1926.
Amarillo
High temperature of 95 degrees tied the previous record originally set
in 1977.
Brownsville
Low temperature of 80 degrees tied the previous record high minimum
temperature set in 1946.
DFW Airport
Consecutive days with out rain extended to 83 days. Old record 53 days
in 1937.
