For those at Florida State University...
Classes are cancelled for the remainder of the day. That is fairly =
obvious because many of you can't make it to your cars!!
For those who are interesting and/or those trying to get into =
Tallahassee...
An intense squall on the east side of Tropical Storm Helene moved into =
the area this moving. It is 'training' over our area now. Tallahassee
=
regional airport has had 6.04 inches of rain since earlier this morning,
=
and it is still coming down very heavily as I write this. The apartment
=
complex next door is flooded waist-deep. Thankfully, my apartment =
complex is on a hill...and I'm on the 3rd floor. =20
A tornado warning was issued for our area around 10 o'clock this =
morning. The tornado weakened as it headed for town, but a 50 mph wind
=
gust was reported here at Florida State University at around 10:15 PM on
=
our observational tower. =20
The city of Tallahassee has been essentially shut down. The regional =
airport is closed. I've been told that U.S. 90 West (the main road that
=
goes through Tallahassee) is flooded and cars are stranded. There is 3
=
feet of water near the Leach Center on-campus (which is our fitness =
facility). This is very near the football stadium, and I'm not certain
=
what they are going to do with regard to the game tomorrow evening. =20
Also of note... we picked up 2.25 inches of rain here at FSU in a 25 =
minute period a bit earlier this morning! Simply amazing! We are again
=
reminded that the wind is not the biggest threat with a tropical storm,
=
but rather the very heavy rainfall.
I believe The Weather Channel is reporting live from the capital =
building here in Tallahassee, so if you're watching... the updates will
=
be there.
If anything major changes, I'll let you know.
Thanks..
