Widespread flooding occured in the Tampa Bay area Thursday evening
9/7/00. Especially hard hit were urban area's of Hillsborough and
Manatee counties. A very large area of 4-6" fell, however at my location
only 1.29" fell on top of the 1.75" the previous day. Also for the first
time this season a true tropical airmass with PWAT's above 2" occured
yesterday and is still in place today. At one point yeterday the dew
point reached 83 deg at my location here in Plant City.
Central Florida started off the day with a southerly
thunderstorm steering flow at 700 mb and at the surface, with several
rounds of thunderstorms passing through the Tampa Bay Buccaneer's :<))
area in early and mid afternoon.
By late afternoon with high pressure ridging building north
of the state, thunderstorm steering winds became weak NE and surface
winds light SE, setting the stage for a classic Gulf Of Mexico and
Atlantic Ocean seabreeze battle along the I-75 corridor of central
Florida.
