[STORMREPORTS] Florida Severe Weather

   Guess what, yep it happened again, 5th day in a row for severe
weather here in coastal and inland central Florida, on Wednesday 9/6/00.
   Today's weather culprits were LI's of -6 to -8, PWAT's around 2.00",
a slow moving cold front over north central Florida and a vorticity
maximum aloft.
  A particularly nasty thunderstorm struck my location at approximately
2:45 pm with 50 mph wind gusts, multiple point blank lightning strikes;
the kind that buzzapp, hum and crackle with no big booms of thunder and
1.75" (finally) of rain in 30 minutes. One mile to my east I found tree
damage consistent with 70 mph wind gusts and 1" hail.
   I have two huge 160 meter amateur radio antenna's that once again
avoided direct hits by lightning due to superior grounding techniques.
CB antenna's and weather station mounting poles can be made almost 100%
lightning strike proof with the proper grounding techniques.
