At 2:42 p.m. this afternoon, the temperature at my
station in Temple, Texas (120 miles South of
Dallas) reached 108.2 degrees. This is the third
highest temperature ever at my station behind the
108.7 degrees on September 2 and the 108.5 on
September 4. The average high temperature at my
station for the first five days of September is
107.4 degrees and the average mean temperature is
12 degrees above normal.
All time records were set in four Texas cities
while daily records were set in nine cities. Here
is a rundown.
Austin - High temperature today of 112 degrees
replaced the previous daily record of 101 degrees
set in 1989. It is also the all time high
temperature ever recorded replacing the previous
all time record of 110 degrees on September 4,
2000.
College Station - High temperature today of 111
degrees replaced the previous daily record of 102
degrees set in 1913.
Victoria - High temperature today of 111 degrees
replaced the previous daily record of 103 degrees
set in 1927. It also replaces the all time high
temperature of 110 degrees recorded July 8, 1939.
Corpus Christi - High temperature today of 109
degrees replaced the previous daily record of 103
degrees set in 1989. It also replaces the all time
temperature of 107 degrees set on September 4,
2000.
Waco - High temperature today of 108 degrees
replaced the previous daily record of 103 degrees
set in 1990.
Houston - High temperature today of 108 degrees
replaced the previous daily record of 98 degrees
set in 1990.
Abilene - High temperature today of 107 degrees
replaced the previous daily record of 102 degrees
set in 1948. It also replaces the all time
September temperature of 106 degrees set on
September 1, 1952.
San Angelo - High temperature today of 106 degrees
replaced the previous daily record of 102 degrees
set in 1995.
Galveston - High temperature today of 104 degrees
replaced the previous daily record of 94 degrees
set in 1990. It also replaces the all time record
high temperature of 101 degrees set July 16, 1932.
DFW Airport - High temperature today of 101
degrees is the 44th day that the temperature has
reached 100 degrees or more. This ties 1952 as the
5th most 100 degrees days in a year. The low
temperature this morning of 82 degrees tied the
record high minimum temperature originally set in
1998.
