[STORMREPORTS] Florida Severe Weather

From: kn4lf{at}webtv.net
Date: Tue Sep 05 2000 - 09:32:00 EDT

Severe weather in the form of large hail of 1.75", torrential flooding
from 3-6" rainfall totals and wind damage occured across inland and east
coast counties of Florida yesterday evening 9/4/00.
Hardest hit counties were Southern Hillsborough, Highlands, Polk,
Osceola, Lake, Orange and Volusia Counties.
This is actually the third consecutive evening of severe weather over
these counties. I failed to document and report on the other occurences
due to the holiday.
Even though heavy rainfall events continue to occur around the state,
they are becoming fewer and farer in between, as the rainy season begins
to wind down towards the middle of September. Actually at my location
I'm experiencing a three week mini drought, though other nearby
locations have been inundated. Sometimes though if we have an active
tropics as we expected this year, the rainy season can hang on through
mid October, something we desperately need. By the way the current
tropical Atlantic shear pattern we are seeing looks El Nino-ish to me.
Though this summer rainy season has been near normal on peninsula
Florida, we still have a large long term rainfall deficit. We need a wet
winter and spring.
