For Friday, September 1, 2000

The high temperature at my weather station in
Temple, Texas (120 miles S of Dallas) reached
107.2 degrees this afternoon. This is highest
maximum temperature for the year and the third
highest temperature ever recorded in the ten year
history of my station. The highest temperature was
107.4 degrees in July of 1998.

Here are records that were set across the state
today:

DFW Airport - High temperature today of 109
degrees replaces the previous daily record of 107
degree set in 1990. It also replaces the all time
September record which was 108 degrees recorded on
September 4, 1998. The low temperature this
morning was 84 degrees. The all time high minimum
temperature is 85 degrees on September 1, 1939.
The days without rain record was extended to 63
days.

Lufkin - High temperature today of 109 degrees
replaces the previous daily record of 104 degrees
set in 1951. It also replaces the all time
September record which was 106 degrees recorded on
September 4, 1907.

College Station - High temperature today of 108
degrees replaces the previous daily record of 106
degrees set in 1985. It also replaces the all time
September record of 106 degrees set on September
1, 1985.

Longview - High temperature of 108 degrees
replaces the previous daily record of 104 degrees
set in 1938.

Tyler - High temperature of 107 degrees replaces
the previous daily record of 105 degrees set in
1951. It also replaces the all time September
record which was 106 degrees on September 5, 1913.

Houston - High temperature today of 107 degrees
replaces the previous daily record of 102 degrees
set in 1985. It also replaces the all time
September record which was 102 degrees on
September 1, 1985.

Waco - High temperature of 106 degrees tied the
previous daily record originally set in 1985. It
also ties the all time September record set
September 1, 1985.

Corpus Christi - High temperature today of 103
degrees replaces the previous daily record of 97
degrees set in 1989. It also ties the all time
September record set on September 5, 1977.

Things are not going to get better anytime soon as
temperature are expected to top out at 105 - 110
degrees through mid next week.
