The USA Disaster Situation Report
About the SitRep:

Help wanted
All Hazard Warnings Roundtable,

Help wanted
For the last 6 months we have delivered the USA Disaster Situation report.

Providing public information related to disasters in the USA, is only
possible due to efforts that go back for 3 years, when the site was founded.
During extreme events I can not keep up with the information being
generated. To a great extent at that time any help that I can get is of
great value. Last year during Hurricane Floyd I was overwhelmed by the
information flow. At a critical time I had to sleep, having slept 3 hours
in three days.

If there are individuals who are interested in performing functions on the
internet during such a time let me know. Most of the work is repetitive and
boring.
I am also open to members creative contributions during such a period of
time.

It may be that during a disaster we could use you to act as our eyes and
ears on the ground after the disaster, or it may be that we don't need your
help at all.

Before the disaster, most of our traffic is from the area that may be
subject to it.
After the disaster we hear from response organizations, Federal, State and
local public agencies, and people outside the disaster area.

I maintain that the most interesting time during the disaster is the
response, because that is the time one sees the efforts of years of planning
in action.
Yet, the interest in the response is far less, that the interest in the
disaster.

During response we can see a system, that has been built over the years,
respond to the event. Observing the response is like watching a great drama
unfold.
Collecting the information is work.

I want to thank everyone who has contributed to the USA Disaster Situation
Report and to thank others who also indirectly contribute to this list by
sharing their observations on the many mailing lists of which I am a member.
I also want to invite you to post your reports to our disaster message
board system.

Your contributions will go into a disaster database under construction for
the past 3 years.

My own situation is going to be changing in the next month. I am going to
have to take a working assignment requiring me to spend less of my time with
the site. This work will not cause a disruption in the quality or quantity
of SitRep's, but it does lead to more urgency in getting help with the site
during disasters.
