For Saturday, July 15, 2000
Three Texas stations set new record maximum
temperatures Saturday and two others tied records.
Austin reached 105 degrees replacing the previous
record of 104 degrees set in 1978. College Station
also recorded 105 degrees and that replaced the
104 degree record set in 1917. Houston reached a
high of 103 degrees and that replaced the 102
degree reading from 1980. San Angelo tied their
record high of 105 degrees originally set in 1969.
Brownsville tied their record high of 100 degrees
originally set in 1978.
I recorded the third highest temperature in the
ten year history of my station here in Temple,
Texas. The high temperature at my station was
106.9 degrees and that followed the 107.4 degree
reading of August 3, 1998 and the 107.3 degrees on
June 14, 1998. The lower atmosphere remained very
dry as the maximum humidity reached only 67%.
