Winchester (nw) VA

In Shenadoah County, in the town of New Market, about 80 miles WSW of
Washington DC, a tent being used by a christian academy for a prayer
meeting collapsed under the weight of rain water. The following still is
from an unknown person,   and was broadcast on WHSV in Harrisionburg
VA.

A half dozen were sent to hospitals (none had life threatening
injuries), following the 5:15pm event. About 200 were in the tent. A
nearby skywarn observer reported nearly 2" in under 20 minutes. photo:
the scene well after the collapse

While preparing the yard for mowing, i discovered that a back tree had
been struck by lightning. I had considered filming the storm from the
shed the tree is next to, glad i didn't.
I added 2 pixs to photopoint. A direct link to those 2 are:

Saturday's wx allowed exactly enough dry time to mow the yard. Thunder
from heavy thunderstorms 15 miles north and later 15 miles south was
heard much of the afternoon. However, we only had moderate showers, that
totalled .11" . The entire region was included in the flood watch at
2:30am Sun. A few counties in WV & MD started the first watch this storm
at 4pm Fri & we were added at 4pm Sat.
The sky was changeable, even w/ a mix of a sunlit rain shower ,no
rainbow :( .High was 85 w/ heat index of 92, the low was 72.

And in MD, a VA man was killed by lightning & others were treated from
injuries rec'd from the bolt. The group was underneath a tree after a
rugby tournament was suspended due to the storm.
