Winchester (nw) VA

A back door cold front has been inching it's way W & S Mon thru Wed
(will return as warm front Thur). On Tue, the marine air had reached
eastern VA, & MD east of the mountains. At noon we were at 83, while 40
miles to the north Hagerstown (I-81 and the Potomac River in MD) was
only 68, and Washington DC, (70 miles ESE). was 70, or 13 degrees
cooler. To my south (30 miles) Woodstock reported 92.

The temperature difference, to that degree, is very rare, maybe once a
year for our area.

A thunderstorm passed from W to S of my location, bringing the temp down
to the lo 70s, but recovered in late day sunshine to 79. The satellite
photo from WRC's newscast (Washington DC) shows the marine air creating
an overcast of the NE half the region, and intense thunderstorm over
central VA, and the 5 or 6pm local temperatures super imposed.

The thunderstorm looked promising on radar, but it's slow trek down into
the Valley met it's demise. A new thunderstorm formed about 15 miles
south then continues away from town.

Wednesday, we were in the marine layer also, and with no sunshine
managed to share a 74 degree high w/ Washington DC.
Thunderstorms, several severe, broke out in the very warm to hot air in
upper reaches of the Shenadoah Valley to my south, and points S & E from
there. We had no rain Wed., and overcast sky, as shows in the photo
below.
And for the observant, a bird flew thru the picture.
