Severe thunderstorms blasted Tampa Bay and west central Florida Tuesday
evening 6/13/00. The east coast and west coast seabreeze fronts collided
just east of I-75 at approximately 6:20 pm, spawning a radar confirmed
tornado, quarter size hail which collected on the ground in some areas,
3 inch per hour rainfall totals which created street flooding, 60+ mile
per hour winds which caused tree and power line damage. This is just an
example of normal Florida summer weather finally.
Here follows a chronology of radar images and
photographs taken by me of the event:
-----
This is the WFLA TV 8 Tampa radar image at 5:45 pm indicating a broken
cluster of thunderstorms SE of Plant City moving NW with the east coast
seabreeze. Other developing thunderstorms are noted further north around
Brooksville, where the collision has already occured

pm as the thunderstorms approached my location from the SE

Here is a photo taken by me at 6:20 pm looking to my SW as the east and
west coast seabreeze collision took place.

The wall of clouds could be seen rotating counter clockwise. At 6:40 pm
NWS Ruskin issued a tornado warning though and a fellow CASI observer in
the Busch Gardens vicinity of Tampa did see a rotating wall of water and
debris pass by around 7:26 pm.
Though as I said the initial collision occured around 6:20pm, here is a
6:56 pm radar shot of the line of thunderstorms as they blew up just to
my west along the I-75 corridor between Dade City and Ruskin.

Here is a radar shot of the diminishing flanking line of thunderstorms
along the SE side of Tampa Bay extending just west of Ruskin at 7:26 pm.
http://kn4lf.tripod.com/fltrw5.jpg Here is my photo of the flanking line
at 7:27 pm looking SW http://kn4lf.tripod.com/fltrw5a.jpg and another
photo at 7:30 pm looking NW of the green sky effect from the hail
contained in the thunderstorms http://kn4lf.tripod.com/fltrw5b.jpg .The
green color was more obvious to the naked eye then the camera lens.
Unfortunately some of the best photographs didn't come out as they
were taken inside my vehicle. The lightning was to intense for outside
shots at times. I've had to many close calls and minor injuries from
lightning to take further risks.
