National Weather Service Miami Fl
1130 Am EDT Mon. June 12 2000

For The North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea And The Gulf Of Mexico...

Cloudiness and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave moving westward
in the eastern Caribbean Sea have diminished.

Another westward-moving tropical wave is located a few hundred miles
east-southeast of the Windward Islands. This system has become less
organized...but could still spread some shower and thunderstorm activity
over the northeast coast of south America and the Windward Islands during
the next day or two.

Cloudiness and showers extending from the eastern Gulf of Mexico into the
western Caribbean Sea have decreased.

Tropical storm formation is not expected through Tuesday.

INCIDENT MANAGEMENT SITUATION REPORT
MONDAY, JUNE 12, 2000 - 0530 MDT
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS LEVEL III

CURRENT SITUATION:

Initial attack activity was minimal throughout the country and
firefighters achieved containment goals on fires in the Southwest, Eastern
Great Basin, Rocky Mountain, and Southern Areas. Alaska has 13 fires
burning in limited protection areas for 1570 acres. Very high to extreme
fire indices were reported in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada,
California, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Minnesota, and Mississippi.

SOUTHWEST AREA LARGE FIRES:

CERRO GRANDE, Bandelier National Park. An Area Command Team (Mann) and
two Type II Incident Management Teams (Carr and Smith) are assigned. A
Type II Incident Management Team (Ostman) is scheduled to transition with
Carr's team today. The fire is near Los Alamos, NM. Crews are continuing
to work on rehabilitation of the fire area. The target date for
completion of the work is 7/1.

(Bedlion) is assigned. The fire will transition to a Type III
organization today. This fire is burning in ponderosa pine and mixed

progress on suppression activities and rehabilitation projects.

OUTLET, Grand Canyon National Park. A Type II Incident Management Team
(McElwain) is assigned. The fire is 25 miles south of Jacob Lake, AZ.
Fire activity has been low due to decreased winds and lower relative
humidities.

EASTERN GREAT BASIN AREA LARGE FIRES:

WING, Uinta National Forest. This human-caused fire started near the city
of Springville, UT and spread onto forest land. Crews are making good
progress toward containment, despite very steep terrain. The threat to
structures has diminished.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA LARGE FIRES:

CRYSTAL, Inyo National Forest. This lightning-caused fire is burning west
of Olancha, CA. Strong winds caused the fire to increase in size.
Monitoring by helicopter will continue.

SOUTHERN AREA LARGE FIRES:

A Type II Incident Management Team (Kearney) is staged in Gainesville, FL.

No new information on the following Florida fires were received this
weekend.

BEE, Florida State Division of Forestry. This fire is in Glades County,
northeast of Fort Myers, FL.

SHIP COMMAND, Florida State Division of Forestry. This fire, which was
caused by lightning, is in Hillsborough County.

BUNDY LAKE, Florida State Division of Forestry. The fire is burning in
heavy fuels 15 miles northeast of Gainesville, FL.

Osceola County, FL.

OUTLOOK:

The mountains of New Mexico and southeast Arizona will have scattered
thunderstorms and locally heavy precipitation. The rest of the Great
Basin area will have mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will range from the
70's in the mountains to near 105 in the deserts. Winds will be south to
southwest at 10 to 20 mph. Minimum relative humidities will be 5 to 15
percent in desert areas and 15 to 30 percent elsewhere.

Florida will be partly sunny with scattered showers and thunderstorms,
most likely in the south. High temperatures will be in the mid 80's to
the lower 90's. Winds will be east to south at 10 mph. Minimum relative
humidities will be 40 to 50 percent in the north and up to 60 percent in
south Florida.
