INCIDENT MANAGEMENT SITUATION REPORT
SUNDAY, JUNE 11, 2000 - 0900 MDT
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS LEVEL III

CURRENT SITUATION:

New large fires were reported in the Eastern Great Basin and Southwest
Areas. Initial attack activity was light throughout the country.
Containment goals were reached on fires in the Western Great Basin,
Northern Rockies, Eastern Great Basin, and Southwest Areas. The National
Interagency Coordination Center mobilized helicopters, infrared aircraft,
engines, meteorological equipment, crews, and miscellaneous overhead.
Very high to extreme fire indices were reported in New Mexico, Arizona,
Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Maryland, Florida, and
Georgia.

SOUTHWEST AREA LARGE FIRES:

CERRO GRANDE, Bandelier National Park. An Area Command Team (Mann) and
two Type II Incident Management Teams (Carr and Smith) are assigned. The
fire is near Los Alamos, NM. The fire area received some rain. Crews
continue to implement rehabilitation projects such as seeding, tree
falling, mulch spreading, and hand raking at the direction of the Burned
Area Emergency Rehabilitation Team.

VIVEASH, Santa Fe National Forest. A Type II Incident Management Team
(Bedlion) is assigned. This fire is burning in ponderosa pine and mixed
conifer five miles northwest of Pecos, NM. Crews are mopping up hot spots
and seeding the firelines. The threat of damage to structures and
riparian areas from watershed runoff has decreased with the drying trend.

OUTLET, Grand Canyon National Park. A Type II Incident Management Team
(McElwain) is assigned. The fire is 25 miles south of Jacob Lake, AZ.
Despite gusty winds, fire activity has been moderate and all control lines
have held. Crews are mopping up and preparing for a burnout operation.

CHANCE, Socorro District BLM. A Type II Incident Management Team
(Bustamante) is assigned. This lightning caused fire is burning in grass,
oak, pinyon-juniper and ponderosa pine fuels 30 miles south of Datil, NM.
Crews are making good progress with line construction. Burning in the
interior of the fire has moderated.

SOUTHERN AREA LARGE FIRES:

A Type II Incident Management Team (Kearney) is staged in Gainesville, FL.

BEE, Florida State Division of Forestry. This fire is in Glades County,
northeast of Fort Myers, FL. No new information was reported.

and sagebrush southeast of Tooele, UT on the west side of the Cedar
Mountains. The fire has moved onto the Dugway Proving Grounds. Current
threats include wild horse and burro habitat.

of Springville, UT and spread onto forest land. The fire burned around
numerous structures but none have been lost at this time.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA LARGE FIRES:

CRYSTAL, Inyo National Forest. This lightning-caused fire is burning west
of Olancha, Ca. Fire activity has diminished considerably. Most
resources have been demobilized and the fire will be monitored.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN AREA LARGE FIRES:

BOOTH, Department of Defense. The fire is in a canyon on the Fort Carson
military installation, two miles south of Colorado Springs, CO. Steep
terrain and inaccessibility are hampering containment efforts. The fire
is burning in pinyon-juniper, heavy timber and grass fuels.
