FIRES
INCIDENT MANAGEMENT SITUATION REPORT
SUNDAY, JUNE 4, 2000 - 0900 MDT
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS LEVEL III
CURRENT SITUATION:

New large fires were reported in the Southwest and Western Great Basin
Areas. Initial attack activity was moderate in the Southwest Area and light
elsewhere. The National Interagency Coordination Center mobilized
airtankers, an air attack aircraft, a lead plane, small transport aircraft,
smokejumper aircraft, helicopters, infrared aircraft, a caterer, a shower
unit, radio equipment, engines, and miscellaneous overhead. Very high to
extreme fire indices were reported in Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas,
Maryland, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah.

SOUTHWEST AREA LARGE FIRES:

An Area Command Team (Harbour) is assigned to manage the large fires in
northern Arizona.

VIVEASH, Santa Fe National Forest. A Type I Incident Management Team
(Bateman) is assigned. This fire is burning in ponderosa pine and mixed
conifer five miles northwest of Pecos, NM. Crews continued direct attack on
the east perimeter of the fire. Demobilization of resources started
yesterday.

PUMPKIN, Kaibab National Forest. A Type II Incident Management Team
(Anderson) is assigned. The fire is 25 miles northwest of Flagstaff, AZ. A
few areas within the fire showed activity with the warming temperatures.
Crews continue to burn out along the fireline.
CERRO GRANDE COMPLEX, Bandelier National Park. An Area Command Team
(Edrington) and two Type II Incident Management Teams (Praytor and Carr) are
assigned. The fire is near Los Alamos, NM. Crews continue to mop-up, patrol
containment lines, and assist with rehabilitation work. More than 400
volunteers from the community assisted in spreading straw, grass seeding and
raking to reduce future flood damage.
SOUTHERN AREA LARGE FIRES:

BUNDY LAKE, Florida State Division of Forestry. The fire is burning in heavy
fuels 15 miles northeast of Gainesville, FL. The fire acreage decrease is
due to more accurate mapping. Voluntary evacuations did occur in a nearby
subdivision. One vehicle and one outbuilding were destroyed by the fire. The
fire is burning underground in a lake bed, which is causing containment
problems.
GREEN SWAMP COMPLEX, Florida State Division of Forestry. This complex
includes all the state fires in Citrus, Sumter, Hernando, Pasco, and Lake
counties. Fires over 100 acres (with acreage in parenthesis) include: CHAIN
LINK (2,507), GREEN SWAMP GROVE (550), USDA (131), DM (700), DW (100),
CROOKED PINES (100), and SLOANS RIDGE (112). No new information was
reported. This will be the last report unless new information is received.

MICROWAVE, Florida State Division of Forestry. This fire is in Osceola
County, FL. No new information was reported. This will be the last report
unless new information is received.

SUNSET, Florida State Division of Forestry. This fire is in Osceola County,
FL. No new information was reported. This will be the last report unless new
information is received.

RETENTION POND, Florida State Division of Forestry. The fire is burning in
swampland near Orlando, FL. No new information was reported. This will be
the last report unless new information is received.

BASS HIGHWAY, Florida State Division of Forestry. The fire is in Osceola
County, southeast of Orlando, FL. No new information was reported. This will
be the last report unless new information is received.

CARLTON RESERVE, Florida State Division of Forestry. The fire is ten miles
northwest of Port Charlotte, FL. No new information was reported. This will
be the last report unless new information is received.

SWILLEY COMMAND, Florida State Division of Forestry. The fire is in
Hillsborough County, east of Tampa, FL. No new information was reported.
This will be the last report unless new information is received.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN AREA LARGE FIRES:

HALEY, Grand Mesa-Uncompahgre-Gunnison NF. The fire is 20 miles north of
Nucla, CO on the Uncompahgre National Forest. The fire is burning in
ponderosa pine, sage and oakbrush.
WESTERN GREAT BASIN LARGE FIRES:

BUCK SPRINGS, Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest. This fire is located near the
town of Pahrump, NV. A Type II Incident Management Team (Burdick) is
assigned. Containment efforts are hampered by limited access. An old burned
area and airtanker support assisted with containment efforts.
OUTLOOK:

*** A FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS POSTED IN NORTHERN FLORIDA FOR LOW AFTERNOON
HUMIDITIES ***

thunderstorms, more numerous to the south. High temperatures will be in the
mid 80's to the mid 90's. Winds will be southwest to west at 5 to 10 mph.
Minimum relative humidities will range from 30 to 45 percent in the north
and 45 to 55 percent in the south.
