During the past 48 hours less then 20% of the peninsula saw
rainfall, this period representing only the third opportunity for
rainfall this month. My rain guage has only seen .03" this month so far.
Now to add insult to injury here comes the heat. With the blocking
high pressure aloft and large scale subsidence re-establishing itself
again over the region, temperatures should soar to the mid to upper 90's
inland and possibly 100 deg. along the east coast. With a west wind the
hottest weather occurs along the east coast. During the late spring of
1998 under similar weather conditions, Daytona Beach and Melbourne saw
repeated temperatures above 100 deg. Also in 1998 the rainy season
sputtered on and off through June and I fear it may happen again this
year.
Ironically with the dry air in place I've yet to record a minimum
temperature above 70 deg yet, an unusually late occurence.
Also earlier this morning I noticed pines and oaks now dying in my
immediate area and so many wells are going dry that people are waiting
8-12 weeks before the well drillers can make it to their location.
