This is incredible. 18 inches of rain in 6 hours (3 inches per hour!!!).
I
was watching radar down there last night and there was a thunderstorm
cell
that just sat in one spot, continuing to redevelop right in the same
spot.
It also appeared to be slowly spinning like a top on radar loop. There
was a
tornado warning for it as well for a little while. I just checked radar
estimated totals and this appears correct. News of water rescues...very
serious down there.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
241 AM CDT SAT MAY 20 2000

AS OF 06Z...IAH RECEIVED 6.87
INCHES OF RAIN (NEW 24 HR RAINFALL RECORD)...HOOKS AIRPORT RECEIVED
4.81 INCHES BUT THE BIG WINNER (LOSER) WAS LIBERTY WHICH RECEIVED
18.3 INCHES OF RAIN SINCE ABOUT 830 PM LAST NIGHT...AND STILL
RAINING.
