The Florida Highway Patrol reopened a portion of Interstate 75 totraffic =
in Sarasota County Wednesday. Smoke from anout-of-control wildfire closed t=
he highway Tuesday afternoon. The interstate was closed in both directions b=
etween exits 33 & 34,with drivers being diverted off the highway. Forestry=
officials say the fire, which was apparently caused by alightning strike ov=
er the weekend, has already burned more than 3000acres of brush. It also th=
reatened some homes in a nearbydevelopment. Some residents voluntarily evac=
uated Tuesdaynight. The Division of Forestry predicted a shift of wind onWe=
dnesday would take the fire away from those homes and into a heavybrush area=
, possibly giving the fire added fuel. Added humidity and lower winds did he=
lp firefighters with the blazeovernight. More crews will be added to the fi=
ght on Wednesday totry and keep the fire from spreading. Watch local news fo=
r further updates on the Sarasota County wildfire. .........................=
