Today was the biggest rush for me yet so far this year. I started watching the radar this afternoon tracking the developing line of severe weather in IL. Early evening cama and the line increased in strength but at the time as the storms tracked east it looked like the more severe storms were going to move north of my area. Well as the line of cells reached the IL IN border they begin to increase in strength and forming a beautiful line of severe weather. With the storms history in West Central Indiana I began calling my spotters to be prepared to start spotting the western edge of Clinton County. Spotters were then deployed to the western edge of the county. The radar showed a line of severe weather entering the NW corner of the county moving NE. Thunderstorm warnings were then issued for our county. The storm in the NW part of the county I was not to cencerned with it was the one entering from the SW that I was watching. It was moving at a ENE direction and had rotation in it according to my radar.
As the storm approached the area and entered the south west part of the county I saw rotation again on the radar. I then alerted my spotters of this. The area of the rotation was getting heavy rain 60 to 70 mph winds. I advised the spotters to take a position south of the storm to see if they could see any rotation and then BINGO in the lightning coming down out of the wall cloud was a funnel cloud. At this time we were still just under a severe thunderstorm warning but are Emergency Management Director updated it to a tornado warning and sounded the sirens in Frankfort. It made it half way down and then moved back up into the cloud. Winds in the area were clocked at 70 mph we had heavy rain and marble to nickle size hail. Storm damage. Tree's and power lines were down in area threw out the county with power outages. Now it may be fun to chase and one of these days I will chase with someone. But for me it's also a rush to track and run the radar.
