For Wednesday, May 11, 2000
There were several record temperatures broken across the state today.
Midland broke their high minimum temperature this morning with a 73 degree
reading. The previous record was 71 degrees in 1950. The high temperature
in Midland this afternoon was 102 degrees, which was a new record for the
date. The previous record was unreported but occurred in 1984.
The overnight low in Lubbock was 71 degrees. This was a record high minimum
temperature, replacing the previous record of 68 degrees from 1991. The
afternoon high in Lubbock was 101 degrees. This replaced the previous
record of 100 degrees set in 1962.
Del Rio is also in line to set a new record high minimum if the temperature
stays above 76 degrees between now and midnight. The low this morning was
77 and would replace the 76 degree reading originally set in 1933.
Considering that at 9 p.m., it was 93 degrees in Del Rio, this record is
almost a sure bet to fall.
Ronnie
