My afternoon high today here in Lanham was 95 degrees. It is currently 81 degrees at 8:15 pm. Looks like Summer dropped by for a visit this weekend. Boy was it hot!!! Thank God for air-conditioning!! :-D
One of my local weather groups, the Metropolitan Washington Climate Review, whom I record temps for, which the NWS uses, speculates that the area I'm in is one of several local "heat islands" like those NASA and the NWS are studying in Atlanta. Makes sense to me, as the "official" DC temps are recorded at National Airport, which ISN'T in the city, but across the Potomac River in Alexandria, and the reporting station is out in the open near the river--cooler temps, breezes, etc.--less concrete to hold the heat. Their temps and mine vary most of the time, with mine tending to be warmer in the summer months and colder in the winter months. Climate's a funny thing, yes??

The high temperature (so far, as of 3:57 p.m) at the Tenleytown Reporting
Station in Washington, D.C. is 88 degrees, recorded at 3:26 p.m. Increasing
cloud cover might keep us below 90.
