Here in Plant City, Fl. this morning on 3/31 I recorded a minimum
temperature of 73 deg, a new record high min for the date by 3 degrees.
We experienced mostly cloudy skies overnight with strong onshore SW
flow, ahead of the mesoscale thunderstorm complex over north and north
central Florida that never made it to this latitude.
The winter of 99-00 averaged out cooler and drier then normal here in
Plant City. Calling the winter season occuring between 10/1/99 and
3/31/00, the mean temp. averaged out 2.1 deg. below normal and
precipitation 2.60 " below normal. Though frequent downpours have fallen
over northern and southern areas of the state, across the central
peninsula and at this location, no appreciable downpour has fallen since
mid December, so the wildfire season is shaping up to be a long and
rough one.
