Storm Report - Temple, Bell County Texas
for March 29, 2000
All times CST

They just keep coming!!!! For the third time in four days, Bell County
experienced severe weather.

At 9:48 p.m. Tuesday night (3/28), the Storms Prediction Center in Norman,
OK issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch # 132 for Bell and surrounding
counties effective until 4 a.m. Wednesday morning (3/29). At 3:21 a.m.,
this watch was replaced with Sever Thunderstorm Watch #133, effective until
9:00 a.m.

I was awoken from sleep by thunder at approximately 3:15 a.m. At 3:22 p.m.,
the NWS service in Fort Worth issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Bell
County effective until 4:00 a.m. A severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles
SW of Killeen moving east a 35 mph.

This severe storm actually tracked to the NE passing through Killeen,
Belton and the north side of Temple. On the south side of Temple I only
experienced light to moderate rain and a peak wind gust of 24 mph at 3:58
a.m. The storm moved quickly east and left the area.

At 3:33 a.m., the Killeen Police Department reported 1" hail and winds
estimated at 80 mph. At 3:35 a.m., a cooperative observer reported nickel
size hail three miles SE of Killeen. The only other report I heard was a
ham operator on the north side of Temple that reported brief pea size hail.
I received 0.37" of rain at my station.
