Has it been your observation that Weatherchannel forecasts consistently
predict higher temperatures (by a margin of 5 to ten degrees) than NWS?
That appears to be the case in Washington, D.C., at least. Why is that?
Just a dusting, so far, from the latest "storm of the century."

Ice Storm in High Point, North Carolina Sunday 30 Jan 2000 10:14am
Here in central North Carolina, we are getting our 5th winter storm in a
series. Temperature is 26 degrees and it is raining moderately. All surfaces,
including the top of the deep snow-pack, are glazed. Surface roads are salted
and slushy, but bridges are said to be slick. Big concern here are the trees.
We have already had a couple of power outages in the area, and as this
weather should continue for the rest of the day, more are likely.
I will try to include a picture out the window. My 100 year old Sugar Maple
was damaged heavily in the last ice storm...I halfway expect the rest might
come down if icing continues...Benj.

Date: Jan 28 2000 11:12:33 EST From: Steve Okonski <intersys{at}insystem.com> Subject: thawless in Maryland
Here at my Central MD location, it's been 12 days since the temp has been above freezing. And, it looks like we'll extend that to 14 days. I'm hard pressed to remember a longer period in the freezer. When was the last time we had not thawed for 2 weeks? What's the longest such duration for these parts?
